God's Eyes

In the Old Testament we learn that God watches over us.

Psalm 53:2 God looks down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there are any who understood, who seek after God.

God is everywhere.

Proverbs 15:3 The LORD's eyes are everywhere, keeping watch on the evil and the good.

There is no place where we can hide from him.

Jeremiah 23:23-24 Am I a God at hand, says the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? says the LORD. Don't I fill heaven and earth? says the LORD.

God knows all about us, even our thoughts. We can’t fool him.

Psalm 139:1-4 LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but, behold, LORD, you know it altogether.

He ponders what we are doing.

Psalm 33:13-15 The LORD looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.

The Lord is against those who do evil, but he listens to the cry of the righteous, especially those who are humble and sad.

Psalm 34:16-18 The LORD's face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth. The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

We don't have to worry about God falling asleep. He looks after us 24/7.

Psalm 121:2-4 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

God helps those who follow him.

2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. - - -

He delivers those who follow him.

Psalm 33:18-21 Behold, the LORD's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness; to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine. Our soul has waited for the LORD. He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

Call on the Lord. He listens.

Psalm 145:17-19 The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and gracious in all his works. The LORD is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

In the New Testament

God knows what is in our hearts.

Luke 16:14-15 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, also heard all these things, and they scoffed at him. He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts.

Jesus knows all about us, but in spite of our sinfulness he still cares for us.

Hebrews 4:13-16 There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold tightly to our confession. For we don't have a high priest who can't be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but one who has been in all points tempted like we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

God surrounds us with His protection.

Psalm 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

God is greater than the evil one.

1 John 4:3-4 and every spirit who doesn't confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God, and this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of whom you have heard that it comes. Now it is in the world already. You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.

God helps us. He will not allow the devil to tempt us more than we can bear.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Don't be afraid. Respect honor and trust God; don’t worry.

Matthew 10:28-31 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. (KJV)

God's eyes are on the righteous and he hears their prayers, but he fights against the wicked.

1 Peter 3:10-12 For, "He who would love life, and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil, and do good. Let him seek peace, and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

God knows what we need and if we seek to do his will, it will be provided. However, what we need is not necessarily what we want.

Matt. 6:31-33 "Therefore don't be anxious, saying, 'What will we eat?', 'What will we drink?' or, 'With what will we be clothed?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God's Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

God is going to judge the world.

Acts 17:30-31 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead."

Even our idle words will be judged.

Matthew 12:36-37 I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

It is hard for us to be saved.

1 Peter 4:16-18 But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don't obey the Good News of God? "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?"

But we can be saved, with Christ’s help!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me

So why not repent and follow Jesus?

Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,

Be forgiven of your sins and also be blessed, guided and protected by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38-39 Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are far off, even as many as the Lord our God will call to himself."

Why not accept God's call?

Revelation 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" He who hears, let him say, "Come!" He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Make God your choice!
